Long Forgotten Woods

Thus far she had only heard tales about these long forgotten parts of the woods, that no one but the elders of the village knew. She had repeatedly been warned to never walk into those woods on her own; not if it was for her dear life.

Standing where her curiosity had guided her, facing nothing but blackness, dust particles were nervously dancing in the light of her lantern. Moist air was slowly filling her small lungs as she could feel her fingers tightening the grip around the cold metal in her hand. The hammering of her heartbeat echoing in her head, seemed to surround her like the deep menacing sounds of distant drums.
